The research laboratory is the development center of your company and is one of the 3 main buildings. 
Like the [[company headquarters]] and the [[:administration|company administration]], it can only be built on the [[oil field overview#home field|home field]]. 
In order to be able to produce [[:factory|equipment]] and [[:refinery|raw materials]], you must first research the manufacturing techniques in the research laboratory. 
Which equipment and fuels can be researched depends on the expansion stage of the laboratory (see "[[Techtree]]")
